BMX In Malta

Part Two

Malta BMX has been around for quite some time, young riders who have grown up at the BMX track and have continued to pursue their love for the sport when they where older. This video shows a number of young BMX riders in there late teens and early twenties, these riders are doing the sport they love plus giving a performance as it is on video and all put together to be watched by the public.

The BMX track has grown throughout the years and has developed into a home for young BMX riders who love the sport and train there often. It has turned fro a waist land into i small BMX track where there is a few different sections of ramps:

STREET

And DIRT

These ramps are used almost every time someone is using the Track, they are used to jump over or to send the biker into the air to perform a trick and then land on another ramp called the landing ramp. Dirt ramps are extremely hard to build and takes a long to reshape and build new ones,so when riders use these ramps they take care not to damage them but to simply launch and land on them.

Another park in Malta were riders can go and train is called Subway, riders use this place almost everyday to meet up, talk, hang out, have fun, make new friends, and even learn new tricks you their bikes. This park was built in early 2008 and has been kept in good condition buy the government. Subway can hold up to 200 people if ever needs be, but the average amount of people that are would be between 20 to 60 people either using their bikes or spectating.

The Early Years of BMX

Part one

What is BMX?
BMX is a single speed bicycle racing individual sport that is mostly held on a dirt track with various obstacles such as ramps and ditches and can be done by anyone who is able to ride a bike. The age range for this type of sport ranges from 3 years of age to about 63 years of age. Who ever singes up for a race doesn't wait on the side lines but is put in the race to have a chance of winning. This type of sport is not that expensive age the only thing you need are a helmet and a good racing bike. Throughout the years BMX turned into an extreme sport to do with more free style movements on the bike and tricks done in the air once the biker has launched of a ramp and lands on another.

BMX in Malta

The BMX scene in Malta first came in the 80's. The individuals who make up the Malta BMX Association  have great passion in having on two wheels. BMX is a form of expression, an individual can express his feelings and emotions through the free style bike riding that he/she enjoys participating in. BMX shows, which are often done in various parts of Malta, are a form of performance that spectators watch and enjoy the BMX sport. John Zammit who is a retired professional road cyclist is the founder of the Malta BMX Association. He also owns a waste land that he has built up from scratch with the help of some riders into a BMX track which is were young teens, children and even adults go to ride and enjoy their time on their bikes. At the BMX track all the bikers stick to a motto and that motto is not to be the best but to have as much fun as possible and to make new friends.
